| Fashion Trends The varsity jacket: bringing it into spring 2013. Channeling the '90s and turning the ultimate high-school symbol into a laid back trend, 2012 highlighted the preppy jacket as one of the most influential fashion trends. For spring 2013, the varsity jacket has met a slow decline due to over-saturation, but its signature cuts are still being preserved. The makeover is based on an array of unexpected fabrics and prints that little by little are replacing the wool bodices and the leather sleeves. Find out how to wear varsity jackets this spring. Look Books Sumarie’s ‘Classics’ swimwear collection is filled with exactly that. With little time left until exposing our bodies on the perfect sandy beach will become an indulging and mandatory summer activity, the search for a relevant and flattering piece of swimwear will soon turn into the quest of the season. Building her brand upon elegance and originality, Marie Su knows all about the significance and the power of a visionary and fashion forward swimsuit concept. Clothes & Accessories Ludique lingerie campaign: playing upon fantasies. Long live the spirit of Madame Pogany, woman, muse, courtesan and as of lately, source of inspiration for both the dreamlike Ludique spring 2013 collection and campaign. If the look book introduced us to each and every single one of the intriguing, provocative and alluring pieces of lingerie, the campaign takes the concept a step further, by placing the bold ensembles straight into a living fantasy. The concept that implies the melting together of two opposite aesthetics might not be a new one, but during the past few years it has been explored with a stubbornness that only left us longing for more. Teaming up with fashion stylist Tamzen Holland, photographer Sarah Fountain went even further in evoking the feminine versus masculine clash, by borrowing inspiration from the costuming and choreography of martial arts films. When you’re limited only by your imagination, fantasy can be anything: a world far removed from our own, or a surreal dreamscape that’s just a step away from our own reality, where the smallest twist has us questioning what’s real. Michael Bowie’s shoot Fantasy opts for the latter. In Bowie’s visual fantasia, reality is much like our own only with proportions extended and distorted. Bowie’s shoot uses a specially designed dress – one that’s 20 metres long from neck to end of train – to create the other-worldly optical illusion. This floral masterpiece becomes the twist on reality, a vibrantly printed sail in one shot, a wall of fabric in another. Photo gallery included. Pictures Home alone and living the fantasy. In the intimacy of a familiar surrounding, one can finally reveal its true nature. Home alone and living the fantasy, Zoi Gorman mirrors the opulence of the French chateau chosen as backdrop in a bold, luxurious and sensual editorial envisioned by Dutch fashion photographer Ivor Paanakker. Based on a strong avant garde concept and epitomizing the essence of the exceptional location, the photo shoot plays upon decadence and blunt sexiness without letting go of its high-fashion quality. To match and at the same time soften the ancient chateau’s sumptuous atmosphere, Marieke de Kan chose a visually striking styling based upon sheer fabrics and lace dresses, ultra-feminine silhouettes and sensual accents, emphasizing the sublime baroque influences specific to the 18th century. Colour, light, texture, emotion and ornate revivals create a photoshoot so profoundly exquisite that it is difficult to imagine anything beyond this regal fashion still-life shot by Aaron Feaver. The regality and splendor behind this lavish rendition of fashion creates a dramatic aura of luxury and desire. With the notions of simplicity and minimalistic décor so obviously pushed aside, this gorgeous shoot comes together to create a story for the eyes and in the mind. Stylist Marissa Peden makes use of all the baroque notions of rich fabrics (velvet and silk), elaborate designs, embroidery and the fine touches of gold and silver. Each portrait fulfils the look with one elaborate piece placed upon another; vivid head pieces sit upon beautifully decorated hairstyles, golden cuffs placed upon silken gloves, dramatic makeup obscured behind opaque veils and intricately decorated dresses made from richly textured material.
