5 shades of red lipstick to leave on your wine glass

There's little more sensuous and powerful than leaving lipstick stains on a glass of wine. Somehow, it doesn't have the same effect when you leave lipstick marks on a tumbler or a cup. We're not going to get into the cutlery side of things though, because this is all about lips – dangerous, fiery, seductive, passionate and loud red lips.

Irrespective of the drink being a white, a sparkling or a red, seeing an imprint of puckered lips on a wine glass is too sexy to resist. It puts your personality in the spotlight and tells the world that you're not ashamed of making a fashion statement. Red lips are your way of speaking out loud in public without even opening your mouth. There's a level of confidence, pride and exuberance that comes with red lips. It would be unfair to class them as a mere hue on the lips because, unlike the colour’s other half-cousins – nude or pinkish shades ' red stands out. You can't hide when you have red lipstick on. You won't be able to kiss your man without leaving your evidence on his lips (or collar!). You also need to be careful to not get its sneaky tint on your pearly whites, as that could look rather trampy.

Most important is to know the shade that will suit your hair colour and skin tone without pulling your face down. A bold red lip has a nasty reputation of making teeth look yellower and crow's feet more prominent. Be wary of the colour you're investing in, before you leave your pout on every wine glass around town.

As much as the person sitting next to you may argue, red lipsticks cannot be generalised as all being the same. They all can be categorised into a variety of shades, be it cherry, blood or tomato.

Fashionising.com will take you on a tour of the five varieties of shades that need to find permanent residence on your beauty shelves. To inspire you further, each tone of red comes with an editorial inspiration, so please do try this at home, age no bar.

5 couture shoes that wow: the beautiful and the beastly

The Haute Couture runway shows tend to leave the fashion world buzzing with talk of the most beautiful gowns, the most intricate details or the most opulent runway settings. But let’s not forget that beneath those lace frocks are often equally creative feats of footwear.

From the crazily creative to the Cinderella-esque, here are 5 breathtaking shoes from the haute couture fall 2012 shows… some beautiful, some beastly (though not necessarily in a bad way).

How to smell your best: your summer perfume picks without the cliches

We've already looked at the need-to-know 5 tips for picking your signature perfume, but today we're going to be specific. Specific to spring / summer. So apologies for the clichés but you're about to read about blue skies and sparkly water.

But honest to sunshine, there's no better time of the year than summer. While some would pull out the argument card of their annoyance with humidity and frizzy hair that unalterably follows, there's no denying that you'd rather let your bum be covered in sand (much like Giselle) as opposed to letting it freeze in a pile of snow. Surely?

Flapper fashion in 1926 was pricey. But can you guess what the same outfit would cost today?

While being a “flapper” was in many ways an attitude – a new liberalism – the cost of being a well-dressed flapper didn’t come cheap. This article from 1926 claims a person could furnish a three-bedroom flat for the same cost of buying the accompanying outfit, modelled by quintessential flapper girl Clara Bow.

Read over the piece and you’ll see that the appeal of quality garments that are sophisticated in their minimalism (“simplicity is one of the most expensive effects a designer can achieve,” says the article) hasn’t changed. The price tag, however, has.

In 1926 Clara Bow’s outfit cost $346.50. So what does that equate to now? And what would it cost to be a “well-dressed flapper” today?

11 steps to a perfect DIY manicure

Confession time: indulging in weekly manicures is too harsh for the wallet. A lot of you might resonate with the above statement. Wouldn't you rather spend the weekly money on a dress from a luxurious fashion house or a pair of red-soled heels?

Excluding convenience and pampering, there's very little justification for spending the big bucks on keeping the hand digits in perfect shape and size. Who has the time for weekly pampering sessions, anyway?

Irrespective of what weather conditions you're currently in, there's no hiding for these fingernails. They speak for who you are ' clean, groomed and tidy nails define a modern and independent woman.

We've made the job easy for you and your wallet. Fashionising.com has mapped out a visual step-by-step guide to recreate the magic of a manicurist in your own living room with almost zero expenses. A DIY home manicure. How good does that sound?

You can even adhere to the cinematic cliché and invite girlfriends over for a manicure, champagne and cheese night. These steps below will give you a professional-looking manicure with a side of bubbly and figs.

Versace Atelier Haute Couture: the sex is in the detail

If you have a love, or even an appreciation, for Donatella Versace’s ability to make desses and pure sex one and the same thing, then her latest Haute Couture outting at Paris fashion week (PFW) will have you at hello. This is certainly look after look of what Versace do best, from thigh-baring high slits to ultra-short minis, waist cinching corsetry to boxer’s leather belts gone glamorous.

Chanel’s new vintage: Haute Couture

Weeks ago, when images of the invite for Chanel's Haute Couture show in at Paris fashion week circled the Internet, it was evident that Karl Lagerfeld would be revisiting the past for this collection. The hand-sketched invite with the words, 'New Vintage' printed across it enticed intrigue. No one knew whether an era would inspire him, or a particular silhouette.

But this morning, as the runway rolled out in the luxurious vicinity of Grand Palaise in Paris, Lagerfeld managed to please both old and new customers with Chanel's Haute Couture fall /winter 2012 collection.

A matter of sex bombs: Wheels & Dollbaby and Tiah Eckhardt

Wheels and Dollbaby is a cult contemporary womenswear label that has its own personality with a bag full of adjectives: it's cheeky, kinky, minx-like, sophisticated, classy and luxurious.

The brand opened doors to its small flagship store in Sydney, 25 years ago, and today celebrities like Katy Perry, Courtney Love, Dita Von Teese and Jessie J have taken the label to the limelight, also known as Hollywood.

The mastermind behind the label, designer Melanie Greensmith, had her stylish mother to look up to who was a showgirl in her days of fame and money. At the time, Greensmith surrounded herself with Blondie and Vivien Westwood, and today she has a wardrobe full of Louboutins and a make-up bag filled with YSL palettes. Greensmith believed in living the life you've imagined ' and she imagined one oozing with luxury and glamour.

Sinesia Karol Resort: understated pieces that understand women

It wouldn’t be unfair to sweep fashion-forward swimwear with a generalization of 'overworked', would it? A lot of the time when ‘fashion’ and ‘swimwear’ are used in conjunction, the result is often something jewelled, dazzled and anything but 'swimable'. Even AAA's would risk mortifying modesty slips with a slight shuffle on their loungers in those barely-there bathers ' let alone the rest of us in the real world. When Sinesia Karol's resort / pre-spring 2013 presentation came up, I barely screened the lookbook before naturally picking my swimsuit for the season from Seafolly.

Rocking up to the event, attendees looked less prepped than the usual 'fashion swim' crowd, and there was certainly something missing: over-applied bronzer. Sipping on their Soho Martinis whilst awaiting the mystery ' she may have sent out invites, but she’s nowhere to be found on Google ' people didn’t mind waiting (as you wouldn’t neither with a hosted bar in a sassy spot of Manhattan’s prime real estate).
