Gothic fairytales and the new noir Street style photography gave black the death sentence. Who wants to photograph black, after all? The clamor to be the most photographed outside the shows meant more colour, more detail, more pea-cocking, and that started to reflect on trends inside the shows, too. But fashion in fall 2012, as part of this new trend, is out to prove that black doesn’t have to be synonymous with boring. And while most women – fashion show peacocking or not – haven’t forgotten the place of the LBD in one’s wardrobe, this fall / winter season is about something more than that. We’re not just talking about one way to wear black in 2012 but the most stand-out way. The vamp, the gothic, the noir… Mystery and fantasy are the keys to saving dark colours from the death of being ignored. The upcoming fall / winter season finds new ways to be inspired by schoolyard dressing that go beyond the usual cliches. Find out more after the break. Prints in all shapes and sizes barrelled down the runway proving rather effective at breaking through the many traditional tailored pieces that usually dominate. We picked up where we left at spring. Prints are an easy way to inject some personality and life into an outfit and create a wonderful contrast to tailored silhouettes. They’re a polite way of saying you have some attitude and you're not afraid to show it. When prints are complemented with a sharp trouser or layered underneath a smart knit, there's always a nod to something not so serious. The designer's creativity and personality are best on show when working with print. After the break, we take a closer look at the trend and how to wear it. Luckily, practicality isn't the point of couture. Twice a year, the haute couture collections allow select designers a platform to simply inspire. The designs are elaborate, exciting, often unconventional works of art that push the envelope of what is currently acceptable, both on and off the runway. The autumn 2012 haute couture additions were no exception, exploring a variety of trends - some feminine, some masculine - but one of which was notably and distinctively primal. From feathers to fur to actual insects, animal-inspired details could be found tucked into a majority of this season’s haute couture collections. Featured Editorial Recent Reviews 5 perfumes men love on a woman It only takes a drop of perfume on warm skin to make you feel sexy, glamourous, luxurious and wanted. And it also only takes a sniff of that very drop for your man to fall head over heels in love with you. Research has proven that scents have a huge impact on a male’s hormones and their sexual attraction towards their female interest. You could be on your first date or celebrating your 50th wedding anniversary, men will always be attracted to certain scents. But how does your man want you to smell? Some like their women to be au natural, i.e. fresh, clean with minimal synthetic scents. But at the same time, a sensous, woody scent on a woman's neck can also drive them wild. While we do recommend you ask your man what he likes, until then, these are Fashionising.com's top picks for fragrances, as per the occasion, that will make your man leap… towards you, of course! Pink make-up and glitter nailpaint are not too far behind in the list, but a braided hair-do brings back memories right from the toddler days till about high-school years. This is one hairstyle that can be twisted, scrunched, turned and pinned to any capacity, and yet appear classy, glamourous and modern in all its glory. Braids have particularly been popular in the recent runway shows; an exhibit of which was seen at Elie Saab's Haute Couture fall 2012 show, last week in Paris. Bordering fairytale goddess and a sophisticated modern woman, this braided look contradicted itself in its aesthetic, however, proved to be a winner amongst all other hairstyle seen during the week. The braided chignon does call for some practice or an experienced braiding hand. If you’re serious about making this one of your fall 2012 hairstyles you could even get a mannequin, some fake hair strands and start practicing before creating this braid on your own head. To offer assistance, hairstylist Annika Bowen has put together a how-to for this braided chignon that can be easily done at home. Follow along after the break. Michael Kors fall / winter 2012 show hit the nail on the head by creating a beauty look that most women would be able to relate to off-the-runway. He creates a look for you, not for the models at the show. The look was an apres-ski look, AKA, an after-ski vision of a woman. The story goes like this – the Kors woman is on a ski trip and this is how she would look on returning to her hotel for a cocktail. For the show, the concentrated wash of red hues on the lips and cheeks created a bold contrast against the fur and wool-filled clothes seen on the runway. The fairytale nostalgia at Chanel haute couture fall 2012 saw an unconventional marriage of smoky eyes and pink cheeks. Unusual? Yes. But do you expect any less from Karl Lagerfeld? Creative Director of Chanel Make-up, Peter Philips, formulated the idea of creating something 'new' from the old, only adding to Lagerfeld's theme of 'New Vintage' for this year’s haute couture show. The look is as girly as it can be - soft blushed cheeks, shimmering eyes and dewy skin. But the roughness of silver and black on the eyelids contrasts the candy pink cheeks, making it edgy, modern and… new. And perfect for your fall 2012 makeup repertoire.
