Exotic inspiration from Air France There are plenty of different reasons for choosing an airline, and for most it comes down to the usual things like the cost, the food, the entertainment... Increasingly, though, is a focus on the overall experience. At the end of the day flying is about travel, and travel is a form of adventure. Enter Air France, inspiring fashion choices since yesteryear with their uniforms, now more so with in-flight content that's worthy of any high fashion magazine. Nikos Papadopoulos's photography just tells it like it is; and that's to say that it's all about the styling. Exotic jewel tones. Lanvin's leather harness and sweeping gown atop Pucci's lace-up boots. Snakeskin and leather and Grecian goddess gold cuffs. It's stylespiration for the glamorous adventurer, and its exactly what Air France is doing right.

She's known as an actress, but another lifetime might have seen January Jones standing alongside the likes of Natasha Poly on Versace's catwalk instead of being solely the face of their campaign. That Miss Jones began adulthood pursuing the dream of being a model is a fact that I did not know, but it's a fact that doesn't quite surprise me. A case of art imitating life, her Mad Men character Betty Draper's life tells a similar story, while the photo shoots that have been a part of Jones' career since leave one with little doubt that her looks and figure are certainly amongst her strengths. It is her feature in the May 2011 issue of W magazine that cements January Jones' model-worthy credentials, however. First, there is the fact that the interview states the fact (Jones was 18 when she left South Dakota to pursue modelling in New York). Second, and much more obvious, is Jones' work with photographer Craig McDean for the issue. Doing away with the mid-20th Century styling that oft plagues her work, it's a strong look that portrays Jones on another level altogether.

Tatler bring the Easter inspiration with their custom-made Philip Treacy straw ears, Natalia Vodianova, and some lace lingerie (Etam, naturally). We can turn a blind eye to the cliches, because it's both fun and timely.

So dominant was their bearing, so influential their style, that to this day fashion still apes them - be it in the guise of Paul Smith's 'naked lady' motifs, brands like Wheels & Dollbaby, and the women who bring this vintage, pin-up style to their modern wardrobes. How the pinup girl came to be has always been something of a mystery though, or it was to me at least. No more, however; with this behind-the-scenes look at exactly how some of the most famous Gil Elvgren pin-up girl drawings were composed.
