What you wear to work is arguably the most important part of your wardrobe. You may think this sounds crazy but where else in life can the clothes you wear have a genuine effect on your future. Your appearance can be the difference between getting that promotion and being stuck in the same position forever. But what is the appropriate look and style? Check out these rules to make sure your work attire doesn't let you down 1. Keep your flesh under wraps
Even with today's sense of sexual equality, woman are still being treated as sex objects in many workplaces. It may less open than before but it still goes on. If you show off your body you will simply encourage your male colleague to look at you as little more than someone they would like to sleep with. This may boost your ego but it certainly wont boost your career opportunities.
2. Shoes should be neat, shiny and comfortable
Your footwear is the most important aspect of a woman's work wardrobe. However it can be difficult to find a shoe that meats all the criteria. Work shoes shouldn't be too outlandish yet they should be stylish. Heels are usually the best compliment to a sharp business suit but your shoes must be comfortable to walk in. You may be on your feet for long periods of time. Its not worth blisters and hard feet just to look that extra but special. If you want to wear knee high boots, your skirt should always cover the tops. Showing your boots off may seem like a good ideas but it's not suitable for a working environment.
3. Clothes must fit properly
This may seem like common sense but it doesn't stop thousands of woman going to work in clothes that are too tight, too big or simply unfitting. Although you wont get sacked for this, it can effect your chances of promotion.
4. Underwear should not be seen
At work you are a professional before you are a woman. If you show bra straps or indeed show the whole of your bra through a light blouse, you will be encouraging your male colleagues to see you as a woman rather than a professional. If you want a career you need to keep your sex under wraps. Of course it wont stop men thinking of you in that way. But it doesn't give them any added reason to either.
