As she becomes more accustomed to the haute couture fashion scene, albeit not the official one, Ulyana Sergeenko seems to hold back on the drama less and less. For autumn 2013, the Russian designer sought inspiration in the captivating folk stories that her grandmother told to her as a child. Never lacking of substance, Ulyana Sergeenko’s collections continue to celebrate the Russian heritage in the most beautiful way possible. Runway Versace Atelier Haute Couture Autumn 2013. Runway Stephane Rolland Haute Couture Autumn 2013. Austerity can be sensual. If you doubted it you need only have watched Stephane Rolland’s haute couture autumn 2013 show, which saw Spanish dancer Rafael Amargo stomping and spinning in the center of the square runway as if he were confronting an imaginary bull. Like the sharp, forceful movements and empassioned cries of the Spanish dancer, Rolland’s pieces were formed of that combination of austerity and sensuousness: origami folds and pleats contrasted by the most airy billows of liquid silk crepe or glazed chiffon. Runway Rami Al Ali Haute Couture Autumn 2013. Gustav Klimt was magic with gold leaf, turning blank canvases into burnished stars, burning suns and byzantine gold. Klimt’s ‘Golden Phase’ inspired couturier Rami Al Ali to do much the same for dresses: Al Ali pouring the magic of Klimt’s gilt mosaics and erotic forms into breathtaking gowns, and never spilling a drop.
